iPresent Producer: Fullscreen Feature

One of my favorite features in iPresent Producer 1.0 is the ability to go into “Full Screen” mode when creating a PowerPoint based audio or video presentation. This feature is particularly useful when, as a presenter you will be giving a “live” presentation in front of a group of people, but you’d also like to capture it, using iPresent Producer. Here’s how it works:

Once you’ve selected a PowerPoint file that you’d like to capture with iPresent Producer, you’ll be on the “Capture Screen”:

Capture Screen: Click to Enlarge

The “Capture Screen” consists of a “Slide Window”, and a small “Recording Control Window”. I’m not going to go into all the features on this screen, but basically this is how you record audio/video and synchronize your “slides” into a rich media presentation. Ok, so now if you were presenting off of your laptop through an LCD projector onto a screen, the typical use case is to open your PPT and click View Slideshow. Well, with iPresent Producer it is very much the same. Once on the “Capture Screen”, you simply click the “Options” button, and then click “Full Screen Mode”, as seen below:

Select Full Screen Mode: Click to Enlarge

This will display PowerPoint’s built in “Slide Show” mode along with the iPresent Producer “Recording Control Window”, like so:

Full Screen Mode: Click to Enlarge

To begin recording audio, video and all slide changes - simply click Record. You can minimize the “Recording Control Window” and navigate through your presentation as you normally would (using mouse clicks, clicking <ENTER> or <SPACEBAR>, etc.) Every action you perform is automatically captured and synchronized to the audio/video that is being captured. Your audience will only see your slides projected onto the screen. Once the presentation is over you’ll have a fully indexed archived version that you can post to the web for those that couldn’t make it to the actual presentation or for anyone to review it further.

This is an important feature and I am glad it is being implemented. Will the audience even know it is being recorded?

That’s up to you. Basically, iPresent will be running on your laptop. You can choose to begin recording, toggle to full screen mode, and then display your laptop image on to the screen (using one of your function keys). Until you project on to the screen, your audience won’t see anything.

Although, I’d suggest letting your audience know that this presentation is being recorded for people that couldn’t make it to the venue. You could also mention it is being recorded using a great new piece of software called iPresent Producer :]
